Zaatari refugee camp hosts around 80,000 (Jordan’s 4th biggest city) Syrians forced to flee the war in Syria. In some ways life goes on as normal, babies are born, some children go to school but as the camp transitions into a semi-permanent city refugees struggle to find work and create a livelihood for themselves.

The vast majority of Syrian refugees living in Jordan, are concentrated in urban areas, and account for about 80% of Syria’s refugee population. They live below the Jordanian poverty line and and face the greatest difficulties in accessing services, including health care.

Syria Crisis
A small glimpse to the Crisis in Syria and to the people behind the stats, in Jordan and Lebanon. (Photos taken between 2014-2016)

Syria’s civil war which started in 2011, is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time; at least 0.47M citizens have been killed and 4.8M have been forced to flee their homes. Many of them fled to neighboring host countries Jordan (0.65M) and Lebanon (1.05M), and have been since supported in different ways by their governments and by different Aid Agencies, which are underfunded and need as much support as possible.
